 This intermediate workshop is designed for photographers who have either have a working knowledge of using studio lighting or have attended our Introduction to studio lighting workshop. This is a hands on workshop so you will definitely need to bring your camera. Numbers are limited to allow close personal attention (minimum number of students 4 - maximum 8).

 

The workshop is designed for photographers who would like to improve their skills with studio lighting and aims to:-

  • Help create better images with subtle, controlled and creative use of studio lighting.
  • Explore more advanced lighting techniques using 3 or 4 lights. 
  • Learn how to direct a model.
The workshop includes:-
  • Overview/refresher of:-
    • Studio safety.
    • Adjusting the strobe.
    • Setting up your camera to use manual mode.
    • Triggering strobe lights.
  • Backgrounds 
  • Using a light meter to determine the exposure and using the histogram.
  • Lighting the background.
  • Lighting the subject. 
  • BREAK.
  • Fill lighting options. 
  • More hands on work.
  • Additional tips.
  • Questions and answers.  
What you need to bring with you.
  • A camera. A DSLR is recommended but an SLR or a compact that includes a manual mode can also be used. You can share with a friend if required.
  • If you have any extra lenses or an external flash, please bring them with you.
  • A note pad and pen to record notes, tips and camera settings etc.
  • Your camera instructions if you may need them.
  • Ensure you have sufficient charged batteries/spare batteries and memory cards.
